Ceramic Workshops in Northamptonshire

Charlotte has been running her ceramics business for 10 years since graduating from University with a BA (Hons) in Surface Decoration in 2008. She decided to start running pottery workshops from her home studio in Northamptonshire in 2018 to share some of her hand building techniques, and her passion for ceramics.

Each workshop holds a maximum of 4 people, so are nice small intimate groups. The workshops are an ideal activity for you and some friends to enjoy in a fun and relaxed environment, whether you are looking to get into pottery as a hobby, want to expand on your existing potting skills, or just fancy coming along for a bit of fun as a beginner. Charlotte caters for all abilities over the age of 10, but unfortunately at present does not cater for younger children.

If you would like to take part in a workshop singularly without coming in a group, please be aware that there may be up to 3 others in the group.

Different themed workshops will be held throughout the year. If there is something in particular that you and a group of family or friends would like to have a go at making, please do get in touch to discuss possible dates etc that are not listed below. You might want to hand build yourself a lovely vase for your home, impress some special flowers into clay as a keepsake tile, create a gift for a friend, or even a personalised wedding gift for some newly weds. Small hen parties welcome.

If you have a specific date in mind that is not listed below, please contact me and I’ll see if I can work around your requirements.

Techniques

Not all pottery is thrown on the wheel. Hand building techniques will be taught at Charlotte’s workshops (which are a lot less messier!), and will include hand/slab building, press moulding, coiling, and the pinch pot technique. Please note that only one technique will be used per workshop, due to time limitations.

As well as the different making processes, Charlotte also encourages having a go at decorating your handmade pottery piece. A selection of coloured slips will be provided for you to have a go at applying colour using different techniques, as well as using tools for mark making and textures.

What's Included?

All materials, tools and firing are included. Refreshments such as tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cake are also included. The only thing recommended to bring along with you is an apron, although this is not mandatory as hand building is not a messy process, but expect to have dusty hands!

After the workshop, the pieces you make will be carefully dried, glazed and fired. If you are local, Charlotte will be in touch to let you know when your work is ready for collection after a few weeks. Alternatively, posting your finished work to you can be arranged.
