Wedding Flower Preservation for Charlotte & Matt

When Matt dropped some of the flowers from his wedding to my studio a few days after their special day, I was excited to find out that him and his new wife Charlotte were married at Dodmoor House in Northamptonshire – the same countryside barn wedding venue that I got married at in 2017.

Charlotte has very kindly shared some details from their beautiful wedding, including how she came across and why she chose Charlotte Hupfield Ceramics to preserve their stunning flowers by Jody Knapp from Don’t Settle Petal.

How would you describe your wedding day? What was the best moment and if you could change anything about the day, what would it be?

“We decided for an untraditional wedding with our closest friends and family – no sit down meal, street food van and grazing table, a cocktail reception and vintage seating area. We wanted everyone to feel relaxed and have fun and it was just that. We wouldn’t change anything.”

How did you decide on the colour and types of flowers for your wedding?

“As our wedding was in November, we opted for an autumnal theme. Matt is a gardener and I work at a Gardens so seasonal flowers were a must for us. With it being November there isnt as much about so we choose to have a selection of vases with dried flowers and some fresh seasonal flowers such as chrysanthemums and dahlias which I picked up from a local flower shop. Matt, my mum and I then enjoyed an evening before the wedding making up the vases. We made dried flower button holes for our immediate family and then had lots of fresh eucalyptus to decorate the venue which was free from a family friends tree!”

“I choose Jody for her ‘wild’ ‘free’ style of arrangements. I really wanted a “gathered look’ for my bouquet and again as seasonal as possible and she does just that. Using lots of foliage and a mixture of dried and fresh flowers in her work, Jody made my bouquet, Matts button hole and 2 dried flower arrangements for my wedding party. I actually gave her complete free rein with my bouquet and she exceeded my expectations! She used local flowers from Keythorpe Walled Garden and a selection of dried flowers which matched with some of the dried flowers we used in our vases.  I would recommend her to anyone!!”

“We actually also choose dried flowers so we could keep/gift them the family but as my bouquet was mainly fresh flowers I was really keen to preserve these so straight away I knew I wanted to do something with out using the more common method of reisn. I’d seen that someone on Instagram had some flowers preserved by you over a year ago and loved your work so I did a good old instagram stalk to find your account as soon as I got engaged! It took me a while but I got there!”

I loved having Charlotte & Matt’s wedding flowers in my studio during the late autumn month of November. They brought such a cheery burst of colour and it was a joy to make the three vases, three small heart hangings and two coasters that Charlotte & Matt decided to have made.

The personalisation was also chosen by them, included at no additional cost. Two of the vases were for their parents as thank you gifts.

Below is a photo of the vase Charlotte & Matt decided to keep for themselves, situated in their home. Each vase was a bespoke one-off, so each one is completely different.

“We would definitely recommend Charlotte Hupfield Ceramics! You made the process so easy and kept us updated through the whole process. I love that each creation is unique and no two are the same!”

As with every order that I receive, and with special thanks to Charlotte & Matt for asking me to make these pieces for them, a tree has been planted by The Greener Earth Project, an environmental charity that I am partnered with.
