Mollie & Joe’s Preserved Wedding Flowers

Mollie and Joe got married at Owlpen Manor in Uley, The Cotswolds in November 2021.

“Deep in the heart of honey-stone country, Owlpen Manor oozes charm and history” – The Guardian

Mollie has very kindly shared some details and photos about their special day, including about her experience with using my flower preservation service.

“We had the most wonderful day with our close family and friends. Our wedding was originally planned for November 2020 but due to Covid we had to postpone 3 times before finally getting married on 03.11.2021. We couldn’t have wished for any more. We had the important people in our lives there for us and it’s a day that will stay with us forever.”

“I always knew that I wanted simple colours. White flowers and lots of greenery. I was very lucky to have my auntie, @suz.flowers as my florist and what an amazing job she did. (Thanks so much sue!)

I found Charlotte on Instagram. I knew I wanted to make use of my flowers to create a lifelong memory and now I do! It’s such a lovely feeling to see our wedding flowers around the house. “

The initials J & M plus their wedding date features on the large square vase, the small round vase, and the freestanding ceramic curve that I made for Mollie & Joe.

I loved the colour palette of their flowers – simple white and green but so sophisticated and classy. Because the natural fired colour of the clay is an off-white/cream, white colours can be difficult to portray on the ceramic surface, but I was pleased with the colour outcome with my application of glazes and ceramic pigments.

Quite often, if newly weds have commissioned me to make a variety of different pieces with their wedding flowers preserved, they tend to give some pieces to friends and family as gifts. But that was not the case here, Mollie & Joe kept every piece for themselves to enjoy, and have them all around their house which I love!

Being involved with the story behind the pieces that I make is both humbling and rewarding for me as the maker as well as my customers who I make them for, and it’s a real joy to see my work being enjoyed so much.

I was particularly humbled when Mollie got back in touch a few months later asking for another vase to be made with her actual bouquet of flowers that she had kept back from their wedding. The flowers had dried and started to mould, and Mollie hated the idea of putting them in the bin. It didn’t matter that the flowers had dried or that the colours had faded, the process still works beautifully and I refer back to photos of the flowers when they were fresh when adding colour.

Would you recommend Charlotte Hupfield Ceramics to a friend?

“Oh yes. 100%. It’s such a unique thing to do and such a beautiful idea. I highly recommend Charlotte and if anyone is reading this wondering if it’s worth it? Don’t hesitate any longer and do it!!! You will not regret it.”

Thank you so much Mollie, and congratulations!
