Heather & Will’s Preserved Autumn Wedding Flowers

I met the lovely Heather & William at an artisan baby fair I was exhibiting at in 2019, when they ordered a personalised ceramic wall hanging tile from me, with twine & little wooden pegs attached to hang family photos. The couple got married at Bridge House Barn, Kibworth, Leicestershire in October 2021 and asked me to preserve some of their beautiful wedding flowers into a variety of different ceramic keepsakes.

Heather has very kindly shared some details about their special day:

“Having a relaxed day was important to us- especially with how stressful weddings can be… and thankfully it was! The day was also full of yummy food and maybe a little too much drink? It was so lovely to see everything we had worked for, and ideas we had come to life and be celebrated by the people we love. The best moment has to be getting everyone on the dance floor for the silent disco.”

The florist Heather & William used for their wedding flowers was Moon Flower Florist.

“Me and my husband have always been interested in space. When trawling through the many florists on Instagram I came across a photo of a pumpkin centre piece on Emily’s (Moonflowerflorsit) page and when I saw the Instagram handle I felt it was meant to be!”

(love that!)

Being an October wedding, it was all autumnal and the couple had foliage runners for the tables.

I loved all of the leafy, dangly foliage that made up this gorgeous bouquet. It’s nice to include different leaf shapes as well as flowers, especially in a piece such as a large wall tile as there is more surface area to cover and the leaves break it up a bit.

Heather & Will asked for two personalised A4 wall hangings, a set of four coasters, a personalised circular vase and a small square personalised vase.

Pieces do not have to be personalised, and I never charge extra for personalisation, but I think it helps to make the connection with individual pieces and tells a story.

Pressing the flowers worked like a dream. They all peeled back out of the clay well, and left the most gorgeous textural imprints.

The flowers are arranged into a composition on rolled out sheets of soft clay before being pressed into the wet surface. When the flowers are pressed in, they sometimes move slightly or curl around each other into organic patterns. I always work around the direction the flowers decide to settle in – the flowers are my tools and they lead the way!

I just love how each piece tells it’s own story.

“I absolutely knew that I was going to preserve some of our wedding flowers before we even got married. I knew that having the flowers preserved would be the loveliest keepsake of the day. I was going to give out one of the vases as a gift but I couldn’t bare to part with any!”

“We are slowly renovating our home and most of our pieces have homes but some we are going to keep safely wrapped up until we find the perfect spot.”

“Most people have wedding flowers, and sometimes that can cost quite a bit of money. As soon as I started wedding planning I knew that when I had finished enjoying every last bit of life out of the flowers I would have them preserved. It seemed logical, and now I get to enjoy them forever.”

Thank you so much Heather <3
