Leah & Nic’s Preserved Wedding Flowers

Like many others, Leah & Nic’s wedding day was postponed due to Covid but they were finally married in September 2021 at Emmanuel College in Cambridge.

Leah got in touch with me nine months before their wedding date to discuss the possibilities of preserving their wedding flowers. We chatted on email back and forth and whenever Leah had a question she knew she could just send me an email to check something or ask for details of hr order to be changed.

After I made Leah & Nic’s flower preserved pieces, Leah was kind enough to answer some questions about their special day for me to share.

I asked how Leah would describe their wedding day, what her best moment was and if there was anything she would change…

“After postponing our wedding due to the pandemic, we had no expectations of our day, we just wanted to get married! Our day was perfect for us, our nearest and dearest were all able to join us. The best moment was walking down the aisle after the ceremony as husband and wife – at last, followed by an evening of celebrating on a full dance floor! I wouldn’t change a thing about our day, I would just love to do it all over again.”

How did you decide on the colour and types of flowers for your wedding?

“Roses are my favourite flowers so having roses incorporated in our flowers were a must. We also decided on shades of pink to compliment the bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen’s suits. Heidi was great as she was able to advise the flowers that would be in season and what would compliment each other.”

What made you choose the florist you used?

“We picked Heidi Appleyard Floral Design as she did the flowers at a wedding we attended, we thought they were absolutely beautiful.”

Leah didn’t know that it was possible to have flowers preserved into ceramic keepsakes until a work colleage sent her a screenshot of one of my stories about flower preservation that she had seen on social media.

After the wedding, when I received a handful of the stems in the post, I made a start on the dishes that Leah asked me to make. There were three smaller trinket dishes and one large, each with personalisation included. Since these pieces were only small, and they didn’t take long to dry, I was able to squeeze them into my next kiln firing and managed to return them back to Leah within 2 weeks.

Were any of the pieces you had made for gifts?

Yes, two of the items were little hearts for our Mums, they absolutely loved them and were incredibly touched that they had a little bit of our day to keep forever.

Where have you displayed your new flower preserved keepsakes? One of our keepsakes is a trinket dish that I use for my jewellery, so it is lovely to see it every morning when I put my jewellery on. Another is a keepsake heart that I’ve displayed next to one of our wedding photographs.

Would you recommend Charlotte Hupfield Ceramics to a friend?

“Yes, definitely! I am so pleased that we preserved our wedding flowers. The pieces Charlotte created are such lovely and unique keepsakes – a beautiful reminder of our wedding day. Charlotte was so helpful throughout the whole process and answered all of my queries. I also couldn’t believe how quickly she returned our ceramics.

Thank you ever so much Charlotte for preserving my wedding flowers in the most beautiful way. Two of the hearts were for our mothers who absolutely loved them – there were even tears! I am so pleased that I found your website and now I have my wedding flowers with me forever. Thank you ever so much!”
