Student Surprises Teachers with Bespoke Gift

Colette, a lovely lady who had ordered a piece from me previously, got in touch a few months ago to enquire about a bespoke gift for the teachers at her daughters current school before she left to go to a residential school.

We discussed what was required via e-mail and I suggested a ceramic heart plaque with the name of the school at the top, the words ‘thank you for helping me grow’ in the middle, and Colette’s daughters name at the bottom, with real flowers pressed in-between.

I was given the go-ahead promptly and so made a start on selecting the perfect stems to press into a sheet of rolled out clay that would feature on the plaque. I usually impress the flowers into a composition first to let them do the talking, and then work around them. The flowers guide me, which I think is important because it keeps the finished look organic and natural.

I was so happy to receive the photo above of Colette’s daughter Jessica and her teachers after they had just been presented with the plaque, that Colette very kindly sent to me. It makes everything I do so worthwhile – Being involved with the story behind a bespoke piece is heart warming in itself, but to be further rewarded with beautiful photos like this just completes the whole process for me and I feel honoured to be a part of the story.
