Bespoke Botanical Ceramic Splashback Tiles

Last year during lockdown 2020, I made so many sets of bespoke botanical tiles for kitchen and bathroom splashbacks. From spending so much time in their homes, people seemed to be carrying out a lot of DIY (including us!)

A couple of customers have kindly sent photographs of the tiles I made for them, now that they are part of their homes.

Firstly, a huge thank you to Bridget in Oldham, Greater Manchester for sending these photos of her beautiful farmhouse kitchen featuring some of my botanical tiles that I made for her last year. Bridget first contacted me with an enquiry and after a few emails back and forth, we then spoke on the phone and agreed the details of a bespoke commission after Bridget and her family had worked out the perfect look for their new kitchen.

I’ve said it before, but I’m still so grateful that people love my work so much to have it permanently installed in their homes. It’s such a wonderful feeling ❤

Bridget paired my botanical tiles with some beautiful plain tiles that she sourced from a manufacturing company. I love their slightly wavy edges and think they work really well with my tiles. What do you think?

Secondly, another huge thank you goes to Zoe and her family in Exeter, Devon who wanted 170 ceramic tiles to mount on their kitchen wall behind their aga as a splashback. Zoe asked for 110 plain tiles with 60 botanical tiles mixed in. I offered her the chance to pick her own wild flower stems, and she found some on a walk with her children and spaniels just down the lane from their home. The stems were then sent to me in the post. I used each hand foraged wild stem to print the organic shapes and patterns into clay before making into the botanical tiles. The colours were chosen by Zoe and her family too.

The handmade process of each tile is a fairly lengthy process, especially the drying time. I made and fired the tiles in batches, while Zoe waited patiently. It is fair to say that I treated each one as if they were my babies during the 3 months they took to make, dry and fire. I am so happy and relieved that they are finished but felt a little sad to see them go! Although it was so exciting to see them in their forever home.

How lovely that a selection of the wild flowers from a lane right next to the house now sit permanently on a wall in the kitchen ☺

Not all of the tiles that I made were used so they decided to make some framed pictures from the left over tiles, which I think look fantastic in those gorgeous frames!

The lighting in the kitchen photos isn’t 100% true to the tiles… they appear more how they are shown in the frames ☺
