Handmade Journals

I’ve been having a play!

The other day I was looking through some old magazines that I was going to shred for recyclable packaging, and came across some interesting images and decorative wording that I thought were too nice to shred, so I decided to tear them out and make something.

I was inspired by this Ribbon Swirl Journal Tutorial by The Creative Place last week – Distressed corrugated cardboard was used for the cover. I had a go at using the same technique and used some of my magazine cuttings combined with a few other materials, to make this ‘Love journal’.

I cut some pages to size and tied the whole thing together with string. Each page has a sentence or a few words written in different colours, alongside some of the magazine images. You would be surprised at how many different images of hearts I found!

I used a few of the magazine cuttings to put together this little ‘Home‘ collage, which was then mounted and displayed in a frame. I’m really pleased with it.

I also made this recipe book for my mum for Mother’s Day. She can use it to write notes about her cooking and jot down some recipe combinations. I wrote a few recipes in the book before I gave it to her – recipes that I want to try! 🙂

Here are a few handmade journals I found on Folksy; I love the holiday journal, it looks packed full of nice things ready to fill with your holiday memories.

Good luck with your hospital stay. That journal is "awesome"! My daughter's always needing new notebooks and there's enough rubbish on her bedroom floor – I think a few handmade journals will kill two birds with one stone :o)
