Has Spring Sprung?

Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend!

Since the clocks went forward on Saturday it seems as though spring has finally arrived. It’s so nice to see some sunshine, even if it is several weeks overdue! My wind chimes, tea light holders, plant markers and little bud vases have been popular over the last couple of weeks – I’m wondering if people are prepping their gardens and decorating ready for summer?

CHC has had a busy month with exhibitions in Manchester, Oxfordshire & Derbyshire, as well as supplying stock to new and existing shops and galleries. It was nice to finally have a breather over the long bank holiday weekend, with some horse riding, visiting country shows, making cakes and a spot of shopping.

The change in seasons and the lighter evenings have inspired some new work – coming soon!

New Wind Chimes

Introducing my new ceramic wind chimes… the perfect addition to your garden this summer! They make a delightful sound when blown in the breeze. Hope you like them, they were fun to make.

Currently available in natural brown or green.

What I’m working on… continued

Remember the clay cylinder shapes I was working on last week? (View them here)

Here are the fired results with some colour added, and with a matt finish. I really like the mint green colour, it is very fresh and spring like. I’m not too keen on the blue – seems a bit too much but if the blue pieces were to be incorporated with some of the other colours to break it up, I think that would work better.

Those of you who guessed what they were for last week, guessed correctly! These ceramic cylinders are going to be used for some new wind chimes.

I haven’t put any together yet, as I’m still experimenting with a few things. But watch this space for some finished wind chimes soon!

Something broken into something new

A few weeks ago my mum told me that she had something sad to tell me. One of my vases that she had displayed in her living room smashed on the floor while she was hoovering. (I hate that with hoovers – mine blows air out from the back and always blows the magnets off the fridge when I’m hoovering the kitchen!) It was the same thing that happened with my mums hoover – the air blowing out of it blew the vase off the shelf.
I asked if she still had the bits to the broken vase, because I had an idea of making something else out of it. I smashed the vase up a bit more (wearing goggles and covering the vase in a tea towel by the way!), and used the best bits to combine into some new hanging mobiles / wind chimes.

The vase had a landscape design glazed on the surface, which you can still make out from the broken pieces. I combined strips of coloured glass, shells, ribbon, copper wire and other ceramic bits and bobs that I had lying around.

The snow day last week was an ideal opportunity to photograph the mobiles against a nice crisp white background. Snow does have it’s uses!

I also made this larger piece, which is my favourite out of the two.

Now I can give my mum something new, and she still has the ‘vase’ :)

New Wind Chimes

When I had the chance to sit down at my stall at the balloon fiesta last week, I managed to make some new hanging mobiles / wind chimes. I’m glad I took all my bits and bobs for making these, it felt good to make things that didn’t involve getting clay all over myself!

I really enjoy making these, in fact I think they are becoming my new obsession! I have lots more bits and pieces lined up for my next batch. I’ll need to make another trip to the woods for more wood first though!

All of these mobiles are available to purchase in the Hanging Decorations category on my website.

Wind Chime Mobiles

I’ve been working on a new project this week, and have really enjoyed working outside of my comfort zone.

I’ve had quite a few small bits and pieces of decorative ceramics lying around for a while, that I’ve either kept because I wasn’t sure what to do with them, or they are broken bits from a piece that I didn’t want to throw away – I can always find a use for everything!

After a trip to Hobby Craft last weekend I bought some copper wire and decided to use some of the ceramic ‘scraps’ and some of my handmade buttons to incorporate into a hanging mobile or wind chime.

I also used strips of coloured glass and shells. The overall look of the outcome is very natural, just what I was hoping for.

I’m really pleased with the results and will be making a few more with different sized pieces of wood that I collected from the country park. Now that I know the idea works well, I’ll be a bit more experimental with my next designs.

It was quite difficult to photograph it, to capture the full beauty of the piece. I had fun photographing the shadows too!

The hanging charms make a delightful ‘clinking’ sound when blown in the breeze.

This hanging wind chime mobile is available to purchase from my online shops. You can shop via my direct store, Folksy, Etsy or Swanky Maison.

I also made another mobile using thick green garden wire (below). It doesn’t create the same delicate and elegant look, so I’ve decided to stick with using copper wire. My mum however loves the outcome of this piece and has decided she wants to keep it for herself!

What are your thoughts? Do you prefer the copper wire or green garden wire look?
