I’m so pleased to be home! Sunday night was the best feeling walking out of the hospital, and I still can’t believe how well I’m feeling. I’m still a little bit delicate, sore and tired but those things are to be expected. I don’t remember recovering this quickly last year.
The doctors have advised me not to take to my bed and not to sit around too much as I need to get my strength back, so I’ve been pottering about and walking up & down the stairs when I can! Brisk walks are supposed to be good for recovering, so Dave took me to feed the ducks at the country park yesterday. It was nice to get out in the fresh air. We saw lots of different types of birds, but this swan was my favourite > Dave gets credit for the photography!
I’ve been preparing myself to get back out in the workshop but I haven’t felt like it today, maybe tomorrow. I did however take a few photos out in the workshop today, and here are the custom plaques for the winners of my giveaway. A huge thanks to everyone who entered. The 2 winners are… Karen of Blonde Design & Zoe of Jewel Box. Well done to both of you! Your plaques will be posted out to you in early April and I’ll contact you nearer the time for your address.
The edges are yet to be smoothed and both plaques need to be glazed and fired. Karen’s heart plaque will be cream & brown in colour with brown string as requested. The natural pattern on the surface will be much more clearer once the glazes have been applied. Zoe’s round plaque will be green & brown in colour with the words ‘Elaine’s Greenhouse’ engraved into the surface as requested. Zoe will be giving the plaque as a gift to her mum for her new green house retirement project.
I really enjoyed making these plaques, knowing that they were being made for particular people who had chosen exactly how they wanted them. If you would like your own custom designed ceramic plaque handmade by myself, please feel free to get in touch, I would be more than happy to help.
On the subject of giveaways, I won this cute little bundle of crocheted items from Sharon of Bliss Knits last week. It was a really nice surprise when my mum brought the package into hospital. I particularly love the hanging birdy which is currently hanging from my curtain tie-back. The keyring is on my keys and the brooch is on my coat. Thank you Sharon!
Be sure to check out Sharon’s Folksy shop here where she sells a range of gorgeous felted flower brooches, scarves, more little birdies, magnets and bags.
Before I go, here’s another photo Dave took of a robin yesterday. He was sitting in a tree as we were walking home and whistled a nice song to us

Congratulations to Shaz of Oddsox for winning a handmade ceramic brooch, magnet and hanging star on my blog giveaway. Shaz was one of many other possible winners who left a comment on my Blog Giveaway Post, telling me what they like about my work and suggesting something new for me to make. I loved Shaz’s suggestion of making some ceramic buttons, which I will start on soon! Thank you to everyone who entered. I’ll be having another giveaway when I reach 200 followers
The giveaway was also a great opportunity to browse some lovely new shops. Just look how cute these Stocking Pocket Terrors are! All handmade by Oddsox who creates a mixture of creatures from socks, recycled woollen jumpers and fabrics. Check out her shop to view more latest additions, the hedgehogs are cute too!
And congratulations to me too! I won my first ever giveaway this week, it was these hand knitted tree decorations from SophieCat. I received them this morning, they were wrapped up in a box – I hope I wasn’t supposed to wait til Christmas to open it?! I’m putting my tree up next week so they will hang nicely on there.
I’m a bit worried about putting the tree up this year… what if Molly knocks it down by climbing up it or pulls off all the decorations? She is 6 months old now but still a little rascal. How do you other cat owners find it at this time of year?
I’m hoping to have some new decorations for the tree this year, from the Frankfurt Christmas market in Birmingham that I’m going to this weekend!!! I’m so excited, I can’t wait to smell all the Christmassy smells and see lots of handmade crafts and gifts. Will let you know what its like when I’m back!
