Home Made Apple & Blackberry Crumble

It’s that time of year where the berries are coming into season. Last year I picked lots of sloe berries and made some sloe gin which has been fermenting all year and will taste delicious this winter. I always spot the blackberry bushes whilst out walking and decided to pick some blackberries for a change this year. My friend made a delicious cheesecake with hers, while I decided to try a hearty crumble.

It was really easy and simple to make… By stewing the fruit in separate pans (not forgetting plenty of castar sugar to take away the sour taste), layering into a dish then spreading the crumble evenly over the top. For the crumble I used:

175g plain flour
175g butter
100g brown sugar
50g toasted almonds
a grating of fresh nutmeg over the top

(all blended together using a blender or rubbed together with fingers)

The crumble was ready after about half an hour in the oven at 200’C, when golden brown and the red juices from the berries start bubbling through.

It was delicious served with hot custard!
