Craft Fair at Sywell, Northants

…One of my favourite events of the year. The 70+ stalls exhibiting at this craft fair are always guaranteed to be selling genuine, quality handmade products, because they are all vetted prior to being accepted. I was at the fair on easter Sunday & Monday, where crowds of customers were flowing through the door all day. It is nice to know that the customers all come to this show knowing it is a handmade fair, so they know what to expect.

I had my usual ‘L’ shape of tables positioned on a corner which worked well. I was opposite a huge window which was good for shining natural light onto my work. I also had my new tall hinged lights that clip on to the table and was really pleased with the effect of them.

The main thing I was mostly excited about showing off was my new stand-up banner, I love it! I had this banner printed specially for these kind of events where I can’t hang my usual banner up on a wall. I enjoyed watching people gaze up at the new banner as they were browsing my work. I could watch people looking at my work all day, I love to see their reactions and hear their different comments.

The show ended on a high and I was very happy with the sales I made. I also enjoyed chatting to other stall holders that I knew, and meeting new ones. I’ll be featuring a few of the stall holders on my blog in the next few days – some of them were kind enough to let me photograph their stalls, and themselves, although some weren’t keen on having their own photo taken 🙂

The most popular items sales wise for me were my ceramic wall plaques – My board was full of them at the beginning of the show, with more spares in a box under the table, but by the end of the last day there were only a few left! A close second was my sets of coasters. I was also pleased that my new ceramic buttons were quite popular. Some customers said they would sew them onto bags, scarves, cushions & coats.

My shiny bowls with the glassy bases received a lot of attention. So many people wanted to touch them because it looks like they are wet in the bottom. I think the smoothness of the glass is a pleasant surprise.

I had a few repeat customers who I recognised from last year. It was nice to hear their encouraging comments about the new items and designs I had out on display. I think the most common word I hear people say when they look at my work is “Different” – I like that word!

Do you remember the pistachio nut shells I rolled into clay a few weeks ago? Well one of the items I made using the nut shell design sold at the fair, I was really pleased! I’ll show you what it was that I made later this week – Luckily I managed to find time to photograph all of my new work before taking it all to the fair!
