About
Charlotte Hupfield is a ceramic designer/maker based in the heart of Northamptonshire, UK, creating my handmade one-off ceramic pieces from her workshop at home. It is here that she enjoys spending time on new natural designs while listening to music and drinking tea!
Charlotte's journey began when she found herself fascinated with the qualities of clay as a material while at college. She loved art and being creative at school, which is why she studied a broad range of art at A Level, including Fine Art, 3D Design, and Art & Design. Charlotte's A Levels were like a foundation course, as she was able to get involved and experience every material to know which media she wanted to specialise in.
Charlotte had always enjoyed surface pattern and design, which led her to go on to University in Coventry where she studied a 3 year BA Hons degree in Surface Decoration, and specialised in ceramics. She graduated in 2008 and has since been continuing to develop and broaden her work from her workshop at home. Charlotte says - "I am so proud of how far I have come during the past few years, and am so pleased with all of the amazing things that have happened. I can’t wait to find out what lies ahead of me in the future!"
Charlotte is inspired by everything natural and organic – especially close up surfaces such as tree bark, rocks, and plants. Whilst concealed amongst these natural surroundings in the landscape, she feels relaxed and at home. She finds it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves caused by weathering and erosion from the sea, bumpy and colourful linear patterns found within fields and hills, and the surfaces in nature where no two marks are ever the same – it is this particular aspect that Charlotte's ceramics connects to.
