New workshop taking shape

You wouldn’t have thought that this time last week we had just moved house and everything was a bit chaotic, if you visited our new house now! Everything is in it’s new place, furniture has been put together, we’ve even made a start on adding plants to the garden. The house is in a lovely peaceful area, there is a canal and fields just over the road – got a feeling I will be taking a few walks there for some inspiration!

Last week I was delighted to have won a handmade plaque from Wendy of 1st Unique Gifts. The ‘Home Sweet Home’ wording on it fits in brilliantly, and the plaque is now hung in our hallway as one of the first things to see when you come into the house.

I was supposed to be saving it til this weekend, but I couldn’t resist sorting out the garage yesterday afternoon, which is going to be my new workshop. Here’s the old workshop below at the old house, just as it was being cleared out last week…

…and here’s the new workshop below before I started sorting everything out yesterday! Everything had more or less just been ‘put’ in here last week as I hadn’t decided how I wanted it to be laid out.

But now it is starting to take shape…

It is much more cosier than the old workshop and should be a lot warmer in the winter. There are still a few adjustments to be made in here, and I still have some things to sort out. Then I can start making lots of new things, I can’t wait!

In other news I have an appointment at a gallery tomorrow to discuss them becoming a new stockist of my ceramics – very excited about that! I’ll be getting my portfolio and a selection of pieces together later today. There are also a couple of other shops in the pipeline for becoming potential new stockists of my work, so I hope to share the details with you soon when everything is finalised!

I could live here…

One week to go before we get the keys to the new place! I’m so excited to be in our new cosy home, and setting up my new workshop, which will be another garage! I’ve been boxing everything up in my current workshop ready for the move, and fired the kiln for the last time over the weekend. I’ve also taken my banner down so it looks really bare in there now. I won’t be taking any custom orders for the next few weeks, at least until we are settled at the new house and the new workshop is all organised – I can’t work in mess and clutter!

Thinking about ‘home’ this week, here are a few of my favourite houses and interiors taken from one of my Pinterest boards. Check out the amazing tree house in the last image!

Folksy Friday – Home

I’m sooooo excited about moving house in a few weeks time! The pile of new house stuff is growing, and we are starting to think about what furniture will go where, etc. My obvious choice for a Folksy Friday this week is a selection of my favourite ‘home’ related items. Enjoy!

Handmade Journals

I’ve been having a play!

The other day I was looking through some old magazines that I was going to shred for recyclable packaging, and came across some interesting images and decorative wording that I thought were too nice to shred, so I decided to tear them out and make something.

I was inspired by this Ribbon Swirl Journal Tutorial by The Creative Place last week – Distressed corrugated cardboard was used for the cover. I had a go at using the same technique and used some of my magazine cuttings combined with a few other materials, to make this ‘Love journal’ for Dave.

I cut some pages to size and tied the whole thing together with string. Each page has a sentence or a few words written in different colours, alongside some of the magazine images. You would be surprised at how many different images of hearts I found!

<-- It was a bit of a coincidence that I came across this in one of the magazines. Same distressed cardboard effect!

I used a few of the magazine cuttings to put together this little ‘Home‘ collage, which was then mounted and displayed in a frame. I’m really pleased with it.

I also made this recipe book for my mum for Mother’s Day. She can use it to write notes about her cooking and jot down some recipe combinations. I wrote a few recipes in the book before I gave it to her – recipes that I want to try! :)

Here are a few handmade journals I found on Folksy; I love the holiday journal, it looks packed full of nice things ready to fill with your holiday memories.

Work about the House…

Do you have any of your art work or crafts around your house?

I wont begin to think about my work that my family and friends display around their homes, theres loads! I’ll save them for another time. Here’s what is displayed around my house…

a vase on my bedroom window sill.

a bowl in the bathroom.

a sculptural vessel on top of the freezer in the kitchen.

a coral coil pot in the garden.

and another vase on my desk where I keep pens.

Theres also a few of my magnets on the fridge. Its a great way to introduce your work to new people, they usually ask where I got things from and then when I say I made it they want me to make one for them!
