Fresh from the Kiln ~ Leaf Bowls

I really enjoyed making these leaf bowls, and glazing them was fun too. I’m pleased with the results, I think the areas of melted glass gives them a nice finishing touch. I absolutely love the outcome of the layered glazes and green glass in the Gloriously Green leaf bowl (top left). The striking shape of the Blue Ice leaf bowl is also quite attractive. Which is your favourite?

You might remember a previous post a couple of weeks ago showing these leaf bowls in progress. It’s so nice to see the before and after stages. There are a few more yet to be fired – I couldn’t fit them all in the kiln as custom orders took priority.

New Handmade Ceramic Pieces

A few weeks ago I showed you some photos of a few ‘panels’ in progress (if you missed that post you can revisit it here). I have finally gotten around to glazing and firing one of the panels, which is this ‘Cowslip Meadow’ Decorative Panel ~ What do you think? I love the defined engraved markings and I think the little speckles of glass really finish this piece off. It would look stunning displayed in any room of the house as a feature piece, or even on a window sill. The panel comes complete with a clear acrylic display stand to enable it to be displayed standing up. I couldn’t decide whether or not to keep this piece for myself as it is so pretty and it is also one of the first I have made! I’m looking forward to seeing how the other panel will turn out. I might try a different glaze effect to see how the two contrasting panels look side by side. This Cowslip Meadow panel is available on my website (link above), and like many of my pieces, it is a unique one-off so there is only one!

Set of 4 Crystal Turquoise Heart Coasters

These coasters would make a great wedding gift for the bride and groom, or even displayed on the tables as tabletop accessories at a wedding or party.

The ‘Beside The Sea’ Ceramic Bowl above is my favourite item fresh out of the kiln this week. The colours are so vivid and it reminds me of the seaside.

Black Tea Light Bowl

Dandelion Mini Ceramic Art. This mini art complete with easel is another pretty piece. The seeds from the dandelion are being blown away with the wind…

The texture of this Blue Decorative Mini Vessel was created by rolling the soft clay onto a mould of tree bark.

And last but not least ~ Meadow of Dandelions Round Cream Bowl

I hope you have enjoyed my latest collection. All of these new pieces are available on my website. Please feel free to leave a comment, I would love to hear what you think!

Rustic Dandelion Designs

Dandelions are fast becoming my new favourite thing, I even picked some from one of the fields last weekend and have put them in a vase on the kitchen window sill (pictured above on the garden table). I was quite pleased with the photo I took of one of the dandelion floret seeds with my new camera…

Following on from my dandelion inspiration post from last week, I’m excited to be sharing these new *limited edition* dandelion bowls with you, brand new to my range!

I really enjoyed drawing free-hand onto the surface of the clay, a bit like the design technique used for my bonsai bowls. I used a volcanic textured glaze which has worked well to show the impression of the floret seeds being blown in the breeze.

The overall look and ‘feel’ to these bowls is very rustic, with the natural element making them fit in with almost any home decor. I intend to develop these dandelion designs further, onto other items such as vases and coasters, and would like to try using a different lighter coloured clay body so that the designs could look more elegant and bold.

These bowls would make ideal soap dishes or fruit bowls, but I personally would display them on their own, perhaps in the centre of a coffee table, to admire the designs :)

Each bowl you see here is currently available on my website ~ you will be taken to each individual bowl by clicking on the links above.

Thank you for looking, and as always I would love to hear your comments!

more new Bowls

Here are some recent bowls with melted glass in the bases. Up to now I’ve only ever really used blue, green, brown and clear glass as its all I’ve been able to get hold of, but with my new stash of every coloured glass you can imagine, I’m going to be having so much fun experimenting with new colours!

Natural Flower Pod – These have melted glass inside, it’s a nice surprise when you see it, a bit like hidden treasure.

I enjoy using two different materials fused together, and it’s always exciting opening the kiln to see the glimmering colours shining back at me.

The glass is very attractive in different lights. At craft fairs people are always touching the glass in the bowls because it looks wet, and they don’t expect it to feel so smooth. It’s funny watching their reactions!

My bowls are selling well online at the moment. I’m currently in the process of making lots more to build up my stock. As always, each piece is a complete one-off so no two pieces are ever the same.

New Bowls

Here are a selection of some new bowls, I hope you like them! I’ll show you some more next week. Most of these bowls, plus many more, are available to purchase at my online shop.

If you are really keen to buy a specific item, please be sure to do so before Friday, as my online shop will be set to holiday mode this weekend, and I am unable to guarantee that any specific pieces will still be available from Monday. (I would love to say that not many pieces will still be available from Monday, because I will make loads of sales this weekend – here’s hoping!) I will be exhibiting a large selection of my work at the Althorp Park Craft & Country Show on Saturday & Sunday. Due to the one-off nature of my work, no two pieces are ever the same so the pieces you see are the only pieces like it.
