Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend!

Since the clocks went forward on Saturday it seems as though spring has finally arrived. It’s so nice to see some sunshine, even if it is several weeks overdue! My wind chimes, tea light holders, plant markers and little bud vases have been popular over the last couple of weeks – I’m wondering if people are prepping their gardens and decorating ready for summer?

CHC has had a busy month with exhibitions in Manchester, Oxfordshire & Derbyshire, as well as supplying stock to new and existing shops and galleries. It was nice to finally have a breather over the long bank holiday weekend, with some horse riding, visiting country shows, making cakes and a spot of shopping.

The change in seasons and the lighter evenings have inspired some new work – coming soon!

All we seem to be getting weather-wise lately is rain, rain and more rain. But at least the garden will be kept happy. I’ve left it a little late this year but I can’t wait to start tending to my flower pots and plants.

Here are the fired results with some colour added, and with a matt finish. I really like the mint green colour, it is very fresh and spring like. I’m not too keen on the blue – seems a bit too much but if the blue pieces were to be incorporated with some of the other colours to break it up, I think that would work better.

Those of you who guessed what they were for last week, guessed correctly! These ceramic cylinders are going to be used for some new wind chimes.


I haven’t put any together yet, as I’m still experimenting with a few things. But watch this space for some finished wind chimes soon!

I’ve been enjoying making some new hanging mobiles / decorative wind chimes this week. They are extremely therapeutic to make, especially as they can be done in front of the tv! These hanging decorations are made from a mixture of little charms including decorative pieces of my ceramics, sea shells, and coloured strips of glass. The individual ‘charms’ are attached onto lengths of copper or silver wire, and then attached to quirky twigs which I collected from my local country park last year.



I like to keep the colour themes for each mobile coherent throughout, and it’s fun choosing which ‘charms’ will go where before attaching them to the wire.


My hanging decorations make lovely natural decorative features for the garden, and make a delicate clinking sound when blown in the breeze.



Due to the individuality of each ‘charm’ that is used, each wind chime/mobile makes a completely unique and one-off item, and would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day!

One of my vases that she had displayed in her living room smashed on the floor while she was hoovering. (I hate that with hoovers – mine blows air out from the back and always blows the magnets off the fridge when I’m hoovering the kitchen!) It was the same thing that happened with my mums hoover – the air blowing out of it blew the vase off the shelf.
I asked if she still had the bits to the broken vase, because I had an idea of making something else out of it. I smashed the vase up a bit more (wearing goggles and covering the vase in a tea towel by the way!), and used the best bits to combine into some new hanging mobiles / wind chimes.

The vase had a landscape design glazed on the surface, which you can still make out from the broken pieces. I combined strips of coloured glass, shells, ribbon, copper wire and other ceramic bits and bobs that I had lying around.


The snow day last week was an ideal opportunity to photograph the mobiles against a nice crisp white background. Snow does have it’s uses!


I also made this larger piece, which is my favourite out of the two.


Now I can give my mum something new, and she still has the ‘vase’ :)
