Home Sweet Home!

We did it… we’re just about moved in and settled already. I can’t believe how quickly everything has happened. This time last week I was itching to get into the new house to start unpacking, and now everything is unpacked and its in place!

We’ve still got a few bits and bobs to sort out but the majority is sorted. It’s so homely, I love it! We’ve mowed the front and back lawns (white flip flops were not ideal!), put all the new furniture together, cleaned, and even had people over for dinner already. Molly was a bit unhappy being moved (she hates going in her box – I think shes still expecting to see the vet pop out from behind the sofa), but she is slowly getting used to the noises and smells.
I’ve got the garage to sort out this week – it’s going to be transformed into my new workshop, can’t wait. Will take some photos to show you later in the week.

Look out for my first featured crafter interview tomorrow!

Commissioned Plaques

Two of my latest orders have been for plaques with customised engraved wording. I enjoy making these, especially knowing that the wording means something special to someone else.

This plaque below was made as a wedding gift. I hope the bride & groom like it. Personalised name plaques would also make great anniversary or christening gifts.

This plaque below was made for a busy man who has just finished building his new shed – The plaque should make a nice finishing touch.

My handmade ceramic plaques are suitable for interior or exterior display, and can be customised to suit your requirements. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in a custom plaque.

Work in progress… Balloon Plaques

I’ll be at a 4 day show at the International Bristol Balloon Fiesta again this year (12th – 15th August 2010). This is one of my favourite events because we camp on site and treat it as a little holiday. Last year the weather was gorgeous and the fiesta attracted its most ever amount of visitors so it should be even bigger and better this year.

Last year I decided at the last minute to make some plaques with hot air balloons on them. I only made 2 (silly me), and they both sold straight away. So this year I am getting prepared early and making a tonne of these plaques. People like to buy a trinket type item to show where they’ve been.

I’ve made plenty of plaques with the general simple landscape and a few balloons in the sky, but I’m not very creative at this sort of thing (I’m not keen on drawing!), does anybody have any other balloony-type ideas?

Hang some love up in your home

I’m back from my show over the weekend, it was absolutely boiling! Stay tuned for details about my weekend tomorrow, and in the meantime…

Everyone should have some love sprinkled around the place…

Whether it be a wedding gift, a treat for someone special, or a decorative feature to hang up in your home, garden or conservatory – these plaques make perfect summer buys at very reasonable prices.

My handmade ceramic wall plaques/signs are all available at my online shop, plus many more. Feel free to have a browse.

The photograph of my heart plaque below was kindly taken by Blonde Design in her home, one of the winners of my last giveaway. I love the composition of the photo.

Giveaway Winners

I’m so pleased to be home! Sunday night was the best feeling walking out of the hospital, and I still can’t believe how well I’m feeling. I’m still a little bit delicate, sore and tired but those things are to be expected. I don’t remember recovering this quickly last year.

The doctors have advised me not to take to my bed and not to sit around too much as I need to get my strength back, so I’ve been pottering about and walking up & down the stairs when I can! Brisk walks are supposed to be good for recovering, so Dave took me to feed the ducks at the country park yesterday. It was nice to get out in the fresh air. We saw lots of different types of birds, but this swan was my favourite > Dave gets credit for the photography!

I’ve been preparing myself to get back out in the workshop but I haven’t felt like it today, maybe tomorrow. I did however take a few photos out in the workshop today, and here are the custom plaques for the winners of my giveaway. A huge thanks to everyone who entered. The 2 winners are… Karen of Blonde Design & Zoe of Jewel Box. Well done to both of you! Your plaques will be posted out to you in early April and I’ll contact you nearer the time for your address.

The edges are yet to be smoothed and both plaques need to be glazed and fired. Karen’s heart plaque will be cream & brown in colour with brown string as requested. The natural pattern on the surface will be much more clearer once the glazes have been applied. Zoe’s round plaque will be green & brown in colour with the words ‘Elaine’s Greenhouse’ engraved into the surface as requested. Zoe will be giving the plaque as a gift to her mum for her new green house retirement project.

I really enjoyed making these plaques, knowing that they were being made for particular people who had chosen exactly how they wanted them. If you would like your own custom designed ceramic plaque handmade by myself, please feel free to get in touch, I would be more than happy to help.

On the subject of giveaways, I won this cute little bundle of crocheted items from Sharon of Bliss Knits last week. It was a really nice surprise when my mum brought the package into hospital. I particularly love the hanging birdy which is currently hanging from my curtain tie-back. The keyring is on my keys and the brooch is on my coat. Thank you Sharon!

Be sure to check out Sharon’s Folksy shop here where she sells a range of gorgeous felted flower brooches, scarves, more little birdies, magnets and bags.

Before I go, here’s another photo Dave took of a robin yesterday. He was sitting in a tree as we were walking home and whistled a nice song to us :)
