August Bank Holiday Weekend

Well that’s the last of the bank holidays over with for this year… summer is beginning to come to an end with the evenings getting darker earlier. I don’t really want to say it but *in a whispered voice* I’m kind of looking forward to winter! I love the summer, it’s my favourite season, but there’s just something about being warm and snug in your favourite jumper, next to an open fire.

But for now… summer isn’t quite over yet. Over the weekend I enjoyed a nice bike ride around Pitsford reservoir, and stopped a few times to admire the views (and eat ice lollies) 🙂

It’s been quite a foodie weekend…

– We had a roast dinner on Sunday, I hadn’t made a roast in ages.

– Blackberry picking happened.

– I made my first ever smoothie. Mango & pineapple: It was sooo good, I can’t wait to try out more recipes. Smoothies are definitely going to be my new daily ritual.

When I was hiking in the French mountains last weekend, I got the most hideous blisters you have ever seen – that’s what walking in new trainers does to you! So all last week my feet were too sore to horse ride. Dizzy still needed her exercise, so I loose-schooled her rather than riding. She did really well, although for some of it I think she was loose-schooling me, having me run around after her! But we managed to do some loose jumping. Look at her go!

My blisters are much better now. However when I got back on Dizzy over the bank holiday weekend I had a little accident. We were practicing our cross country and I could tell she was a little freaked out by one of the jumps. To me, it was the least scary looking jump there, but horses tend to get freaked out by the simplest of things! Anyway, we were cantering up to this ‘freaky’ jump, her ears were pricked right forward and she seemed to be putting all of her energy behind her to go for it, meanwhile I’m preparing myself and thinking “yes she’s going to jump it!”…. But instead Dizzy stops dead in front of the jump and I go flying over her head and land on the ground with a thud!

Luckily I didn’t do any major damage, just banged my arm quite badly, but I got straight back on and carried on jumping the ‘less scary’ jumps. I think Dizzy felt a little bit bad afterwards – she seemed to be much steadier and gentle once I’d got back on, like she was looking after me. I hope so!

I was very pleased to have sold one of my new quirky ceramic houses over the weekend. The large house is still available!
