a little catch up…

What a wonderful few weeks of sunshine we’ve been having! The weather has certainly made a change to a lot of things. It’s been lovely being able to wear summer clothes and chill out in the sunshine. I love summer 🙂

A few Saturdays ago I had a day out in Windsor where we visited the outskirts of Windsor Castle, strolled along the River Thames, and indulged in a spot of shopping (‘sale’ shopping may I add- which doesn’t make me feel so guilty!). It was amazing to see the old Windsor train stations that have now been turned into shops and restaurants; all of the original brickwork is still beautifully in place.

Aside from enjoying the summer weather, it’s been a busy few weeks for me in and out of the workshop. I’ve been delivering new stock to some of my existing gallery stockists, and also preparing work for a few new stockists around the UK which I am very excited about – details to follow soon!

Last Friday I went to an open evening at The Hayrack Gallery – one of my local stockists who stock a large collection of my work (some pieces shown below). They held an open evening with an artist making fabric-wrapped sculptures, a BBQ and other things going on. It was a lovely evening out and nice to see the ever changing display of my work.

Quite a lot has been going on on the making front… I’ve had a few special custom orders which I always enjoy. I love a challenge and having a go at something new, so when I was asked to make a clock made from ceramic roses I couldn’t wait to tackle it. I had to make a few roses before I got the hang of it, but now I’d say I’m pretty much a rose-making expert! 🙂 They were also very therapeutic to make. Can’t wait to see these little beauties when they are fired, and assembled into the finished piece.

Another custom order was for an oil burner; I’m intrigued to see the finished results.

I’ve been stocking up on plant markers as they seem to be flying out at the moment. I’m turning into a plant marker making machine! Playing around with different plants in the clay has been fun, I think these are the pieces I’m most excited about seeing when I open the kiln – there are some lovely organic patterns to feast your eyes upon.

Glazing is usually my least favourite job, but last week I found it quite relaxing. Perhaps it was because I was drinking tea at the same time!

It’s still ‘busy busy busy’ here with a kiln load of work to get fired and more new work to be delivered to galleries and shops. I’d say that definitely deserves a treat, don’t you?
