Warkton Village Craft Market

I had a lovely day on Saturday. It was my first time exhibiting at the Warkton Village Craft Market, so I was unsure what to expect. On arrival at the village hall in the morning I felt instantly ‘at home’ with the warm welcome from the two cheery ladies who organise the market every month. Orders for free cups of tea were taken regularly throughout the day which I had never experienced at a fair before – it was a nice touch.

The village is really beautiful with cosy little cottages dotted here and there.

This market in Warkton, near Kerrtering, Northamptonshire, has been running for nearly 4 years on every third Saturday of every month. Although this months market was quieter than previous, I was not disappointed as it was great to meet new people, an opportunity to network with like-minded friends and get ideas.

I have always wanted to use wooden crates for displaying my work, and this weekend I was lucky enough to borrow a few from a friend for the day. I was really pleased with the layout of my stall; the crates helped to give extra height and created extra space for displaying pieces. They were also great for hanging pieces from, and even transporting work in the car. I will definitely be sourcing some crates of my own now!

The stalls each month are carefully selected, ensuring only one of each craft discipline is on show.

My ceramic brooches, magnets and buttons were popular on the day. I have different baskets for each, with a sign that literally says ‘feel free to rummage’ – and people do just that 🙂

One customer went home with not one, but two of my brooches. I loved the butterfly pinned to her scarf…

Another great part of the market was the ‘make it yourself’ area, where tables were laid out for people to come along and have a go at a craft. There was lots of crochet going on throughout the day, and there were also a selection craft books on hand.

A special thank you goes to Deanne who had been working on this gorgeous crochet cushion below, and used one of my ceramic buttons to embellish the centre. Doesn’t it look fab?

Overall I had a great experience at the Warkton market. The cakes, laughs and chitter-chatter were some of the highlights, along with speaking to customers about my work. I’m already looking forward to the next time – I will be returning to the monthly craft market in Warkton on 14th December. Be sure to tell all of your friends, and hope to see you there… you won’t be disappointed 🙂

After my day at the market, it was a rush to get home and get ready for an evening out in London. We drove down and made it just in time for a family meal in China Town, followed by a visit to M&M’s world (wow!!), and a stroll around the bustling colourful streets.

The perfect end to a perfect day!
