Trip to Germany

I had a fascinating stay in Germany last weekend, where I visited several towns and villages.

My favourite experience was the trip in Rudesheim. The tour started with a cable car ride, gliding over the sloping vineyards and looking out from above onto the gigantic panorama. The view of the river Rhine was amazing, its so big. There were many cargo ships sailing along.

I loved the colours of the vineyards that filled almost every patch of land below.

When we reached the top we carried on with a walk through the peaceful forest trails, passing wonderful vantage points through the Jagdschloss hunting lodge, game reserve, and the Niederwald Monument.

From there we took an open chair lift down through the forest and over the steep vineyards to Assmannshausen, where you can look across the narrow, curved Rhine Valley to the Rheinstein Castle.

The chair lift was so exciting, at one point the trees just opened up and the view was amazing! It was also quite scary at one point where it gets really steep. Some people who passed us on the other side were holding a little dog on their lap!

The village where we got off is famous for its red wine, romantic alleys, wine bars and taverns. I was really impressed by the style of the houses, each one is so unique with its own characteristics. The local people were also very friendly and helpful.

At the end of the day we took a cruise ship back to the starting point which was all included on the tour.

Overall I enjoyed the whole experience although it was very tiring as there was so much to fit in. The views were one of the best bits, there is a lot of empty land everywhere.

…..The other best bits were the wine and the traditional food was lovely too, but I had way too much of it!
