Weekend of fun!

On the way home we hit a huge thunderstorm and drove straight into it. It got so bad that we had to pull over, couldn’t even see through the windscreen there was so much heavy rain. The thunder and lightening went on for ages and was right above us, but we managed to slowly get out of it.
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend too!

Grand Tour of my new Den!
I’ve put together two large collages of images which are displayed on the walls – one full of inspirational images and some of my own photos, and another of other artists and ceramic artists work whose I love.

I have two work benches which fit all the way along the windowed wall, so its nice to look out at the garden while I’m working.

This is my shelving area and where I keep some of my moulds.

Theres plenty of storage space under the work benches to keep my glaze materials, oxides, scales, clay, moulds, safety equipment, tools, newspaper, etc. The benches also have shelves on the bottom which is very handy.

Sywell Craft Fair
Another successful day yesterday at the craft fair at Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire, organised by Pennine Fairs. I sold my large sculptural vessel with the dried pussy willow sticks in it, and although I was very pleased to make the sale, I was also a little gutted as it was my favourite piece! It used to take pride of place at the top of the stairs at home, but I know its gone to a good home and I’ll have to make some more similar ones.
I’m looking forward to my next event at Peterborough Town & Country Show over the weekend of 4th &5th July… I’ve got sooo much more making to do over the next couple of weeks!

Firing Results
These magnets are new to my range. I wanted to create some tactile and decorative items that are smaller and cheaper, to add to the range in prices on my stall at craft fairs and shows.
The magnets with words or writing on were really popular at my fair this weekend, I sold all of them! Will have to start making lots more, now I know which type sells more.

I couldn’t resist making lots of magnets in my usual style… “Organic and Rustic”, as some people refer to it as…

My coasters were all sold in sets of 4 with different coloured ribbon tied around them. Each coaster has a coloured sheet of foam neatly stuck onto the underside to prevent scratching on the table and to stop them sliding around.

Melting glass into my bowls, or rolling flecks of glass into the surface of the clay before constructing forms is like a trade mark to my work in terms of decoration, and people say it is what makes it so different.
Opening the kiln is such an exciting moment as you never really know what the outcome will be. Even the most experienced potters still have lots of happy accidents. I enjoyed peeking in through the gap in the door when the firing for all of these flat pieces were finished, the burst of colour made a change to my usual decoration.
